Community sponsorship is a community-based solution to the worsening global humanitarian crisis of refugees and displaced persons. Community sponsorship allows citizens and civil society to be directly involved in refugee resettlement efforts, giving everyone the opportunity to help.

This type of program consists in groups of private actors who welcome and integrate refugees into their communities. Through support and guidance, these groups help refugee families and individuals adjust to life in Portugal and rebuild their lifes independently, helping them to restore hope. Community groups are committed to helping refugees integrate Portugal's society through social, emotional and financial support.

Community sponsorship follows a whole-of-society approach, in which governments, civil society, community groups, individuals and the private sector each have a responsibility and an important role, ensuring efficient integration and positive impacts, both for refugees and for the local host community.
